David Cusack, Footballer
David Cusack was born in June, 1956 in Thurcroft, he was brought up on the Ivanhoe Estate, son of a miner,
he attended Thurcroft Infant and Junior schools. His brother still lives in Thurcroft and David is remembered for
when he was playing football locally.
He started his career with Sheffield Wednesday, making 92 Football League appearances from 1974 to 1978.
He transferred to Southend United for £50,000, making his debut on 3rd August 1978 in the game against Scunthorpe United. While with Southend he made 186 Football League appearances before joining Millwall for £30,000.
While at Millwall during the 1983-84 season, Cusack, was one of eight new players brought in by George Graham, who helped Millwall's fight against relegation. He made 98 league appearances, scoring 9 goals, 8 League Cup, and 9 F.A.Cup appearances scoring 1 goal while at Millwall.
He moved again, this time to Doncaster Rovers in 1985 for £40,000.
December, 1987 saw him at Rotherham United, as player-manager. His debut was Boxing Day, 1987 when he scored the only goal at Mansfield Town. After making 100 appearances and only scoring only 4 goals, he was sacked on April 27th, 1988.
He returned to Doncaster Rovers again in 1987/8, as player-manager, making 18 appearances before moving to Boston United in August, 1988 where he stayed until 1992.
He was caretaker manager at Boston from April 1990 and then player-manager until 1992 when he left to manage Dagenham and Redbridge before becoming a director at Basildon United.
Both David's nephews, Thomas and James play football for local Sunday League teams. James plays for Brampton TU.
