Catholic Church
A Catholic Church was built in Thurcroft in 1946 on Katherine Road and was replaced by the present building in 1961, the official opening was 15th March.
Father Cavanagh was the Priest in 1963, the church was a sub church and was classed as a Lady Chapel, it was only consecrated for funerals. Weddings, baptisms, communions etc. were undertaken at St Josephs, Dinnington, this being the main church.
Thurcroft church was blessed for masses (services). Father Jackson took over from Father Cavanagh, who moved to Barnsley, Father White was the next priest followed by Father Terrence Clifford who was the last priest. He died suddenly while giving communion in someones home (visiting the sick) on 9th August, 1988. The church was full for his funeral.
Father Clifford was born 15th June, 1928 and was ordained on 19th July, 1954.
After Father Clifford's death, the congregation was too small to keep the church open and it was closed in 1989. The main church was then Wickersley and the priest was Father Smith.
The church in Thurcroft became The Christian Fellowship Church.
