Blackhill

Blackhill cottage and Woodcarvers cottage are on the boundary line between Thurcroft and Brampton-en-le-Morthen, Blackhill has land to the side of it with a steep slope, many years ago during winter time local children would go to this steep slope to sledge on the snow, it was simply known as Blackhill.

Ron Wilkinson, a wood carver and his wife lived in Wood Carver Cottage, Ron was born in Rotherham and served his apprenticeship with a wood carver in Rotherham. Ron exhibited his work all over the country and received commissions for his work from all over the world. Mrs Wilkinson ran a crafts shop from the cottage, along with Ron's carvings she sold other peoples work, including locally made pottery, silver jewellery, and cuddly toys. It is not known when the Wilkinson's left the area. The cottage was a shop in the 1970's.
