Hi, I have left messages before- but this time I would like to ask if anyone has any photos of my late grandparents EDITH & JAMES BAILEY (I know it's a long shot because granddad died in 1946)but he served in the second world war with a couple of other men from the village, so maybe someone could have a photo with him on! My grandma lived on WEST STREET for many years until her death in the 1960s.
Many Thank's

I was born at 37 Zamor crescent on the 7th of September 1957, my name was Paula Medcalf, my father was wilf Medcalf a miner for many years at Thurcroft , my godmother was Betty moore and my godfather Mr Cusack whose bedroom I was born in! I remember as a little girl roaming brampton fields with my freinds Deborah and John Tomlinson peter bluff, lorna gallagher the list goes on! I went to school with Patricia Hustler, Susan Carlisle Heather Gilmartin and Lorna Green the memories still make me smile, but the thing I loved best of all was the miners Gala,al dressed up, pop and crisps, sitting on the banner marching with my dad, my heart falling out of my chest every time Derek Denny hit the base drum(which he did alot) especially going up Doncaster Gate. Heady days which never fail to make me smile, I left Thurcroft when I was 11 years old, but I never always think of the people and friends I made even if they don't remember me i will always remember them.

Hi I was born in Thurcroft in 1960 and left in 1972, went to Dinnington for two years, the Rotherham for a couple of years until moving away from Yorkshire.
I've always been very proud of my Yorkshire routes and would love to hear from local people to swop storeies.

I have recently been told of this site by my brother in law John Wright and was very interested in what I found.
A photo of my dad Edgar Haywood of Laughton Road which I hadn't got. Also the Bell family history.

My grandfather was William Cloke who was married to Sarah. He was lay preacher in the chapel, miners' checkweighman, and union secretary. He became a County Councillor. He lived at 26 (Ithink) Sawmmoor Avenue and died in about 1953. He had four children, one of whom became Deputy General Manager (nationally) of the old Midland Bank.

I was married to a thurcroft man in the 60'-80's and visited my inlaws at Charles Street almost daily. Miss the old place now I am living back down south. Many happy memories of bringing up my children in that area and of Doctors O'Hara and Lyle who delivered them both. Come back to visit now and then and it hardly seems to have changed.

WILLIAM FRETWELL HOYLE AND HOOTON LEVET HALL. How amazing to have found this site with so much information. My connection to the Hoyles is Frank Edward Hoyle b.1847. at Ferham. was my g.grandfather. William Fretwell Hoyle's son. I have been tracing my ancestors for some time now, and had managed to get back to Nathan Hoyle of Guisley. So finding this article on this site was mindblowing, going back so far, just amazing. I would love to know where it all came from, and I will keep checking this site for any more infomation. Thank you so very much.
Regards Elizabeth.

Hi. I have just found your site and it is very interesting. I am a Thurcroft Girl, born 1942. I was delighted to see
a message from Sue Copley's daughter. Sue used to be my best friend for a number of years. So I have now emailed her
daughter and I hope Sue will get in touch. If anyone else remembers me, please email. I would love to hear from you.
I live on the East Coast now, but we are in the process of selling up and coming back to the Rotherham area.(so, if you
have a house for sale.... please email )

Was hoping someone "out there" might know the whereabouts of
Walter Etheridge. He married a very nice lady, Margaret, and was
father to her sons. We lost touch with Walter in the late 80's; he
suffered with a bad chest/asthma, but we're hoping he is well. Thanks!

Hello--I love your site. My mum, Susan (nee Susan Copley)
was born on South Street in 1942, and emigrated to the U.S. in
1964. She lives with us now in California. My grandfather, George
Ronald (Ron) Copley was a miner at the Thurcroft pit, and a drummer
in the band; and was married to my grandmother Lillian (nee Evans)
until his death in 1977. My aunt Gillian Addy lives on Osbert Drive
still with her family
