Extraordinary Robbery of Pigeons from Slade Hooton Hall

16th January, 1875

Last week a very extraordinary robbery was reported to the Rotherham police authorities. Mr. Peter B. Rhodes, farmer, of Slade Hooton Hall, near Rotherham, was a very large owner of pigeons, having about 1,000. They were all right one evening, and early the next morning it was found that the whole had been stolen. There were footmarks in profusion in the neighbourhood of the pigeon house, and also marks of a pony having been lead near. The pigeons were worth 20s. per dozen. A reward of £20 is offered for information of the depredators, of whom nothing has yet been heard.
